Raihana Shams Islam Antara is on a mission to achieve self-reliance in space technology for Bangladesh and promote STEM in Bangladesh. She is the Engineer of Bangladesh’s first satellite, BRAC Onnesha. Currently, she holds the position of Research Associate in Nanosatellite Technology & Research (NASTER) at the BRAC University in Bangladesh.
She has M.Sc degree in Space Systems Engineering from Kyushu Institute of Technology (KyuTech), Japan in 2017 and B.Sc in Electrical & Electronics Engineering from BRAC University, Bangladesh in 2015. Graduated as a Satellite Engineer, she has a strong background in Communications, Embedded System and Robotics. During her M.Sc, she was a team member of Joint Global Multi-Nation Birds satellite project acronym as Birds Project, which is the champion of AIRBUS GEDC Diversity Award 2017. She has been involved in the design, development, test and, operation of 5 BIRDS CubeSats. She is a graduate of CanSat Leaders Training program and also the first female participant from Bangladesh.
Her major research is on Antenna & communication systems for Lean satellites. Her research interests include miniaturization techniques of antenna systems for lean satellites, uses of 3D printed materials in space and socio-economic development using Earth observations data from satellites. She is currently the Point of Contact (POC) of UNISEC-Bangladesh, a local chapter of UNISEC-Global. She got the Youth Excellence Award from ACI Limited in the field of Science & Technology category for BRAC Onnesha in 2018 along with two of her team-mates.
