Start To Satellite (CanSat Wokshop)
What is a CanSat? CanSat is short for satellites (Sat) the size of a soft drink can (Can), which is an educational project that used to teach space technology. Can-Sat is fundamental concept in teaching space engineering to the students. The Can-Sat provides an affordable way to acquire the students with the basic knowledge to many
challenges inbuilding a satellite. This CanSat contains all the major subsystems of a real satellites, integrated within the volume and shape of a soft drink can. The challenge for students is to fit all the major subsystems found in a satellite, such as power, sensors and a communication system, into this minimal volume.
The only difference is that it will not go into orbit. It will be launched on a drone or a rocket that will travel up to an altitude of
400m — 1 km, deploy its parachute, and land safely.
The CanSats must perform a primary mission, which consists oftransmitting data of temperature and pressure measurements, and a secondary mission, which is up to your imagination.
The CanSat Wokshop There are four main tasks will be covered in the CanSat workshop:
1. An introduction of CanSat & it’s subsystems from the BRAC Onnesha satellite team
2. Fit all major subsystems found in a satellite, including power,
sensors and communications, into the volume and shape of a soft drink
3. Design parachute to ensure the can survives the landing.
4. Drop Test CanSat & carry out scientific experiments and transmit
in-flight data to an Earth-based computer.
What are the benefits of taking part?
The CanSat workshop offers a unique opportunity for students to have
their first practical experience of a real space project. They will learn all aspects: selecting the mission objectives, designing the CanSat, integrating the components, testing criteria, preparing for launch and then analyzing the data. The major challenge is to keep the CanSat within the specified limits in time, size and expenses.
Who can apply?
The workshop is open to participants from any school, college or University in Bangladesh. The participants should have Basic knowledge
about electronics and coding. Duration: 5 Hrs ( 2 PM-7 PM)
